Belt – Arachnid’s Mesh -> +1 skill and 20% faster cast rate.Armor – Vipermagi -> +1 skill, 30% faster cast rate and all resistances.Helmet – Harlequin Quest Shako -> +2 skills, magic find and mana/life.Shield – Spirit Monarch -> +2 skills and faster cast rate.Weapon – Oculus/Eschuta’s Temper/Death’s Fathom/ Hoto -> +3 skills.I would go for this if you do not care about min-maxing magic find to 400%+. 65% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items.Ring 2 – Faster Cast Rate with Resistance.Ring 1 – Stone of Jordan -> +1 Skill + max mana.Gloves – Magefist -> +1 Fire skill and 20% faster cast rate.Shield – Spirit Monarch Shield (35% Faster Cast Rate).So anywhere from Act 5 normal until Worldstone Keep Level 2. Just make sure the polearm is between 26-40. Using Larzuk’s quest is also an option if RNG is not in your favor. 1 Ral Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Amethyst + Normal Weapon.With your Horadic Cube, you can use the recipe to give you a shot at 4 sockets if you manage to find a plain polearm. If you can find any of the exceptional version with 4 sockets early on, you can have a powerful Act 2 mercenary by the time you face normal Baal. You can utilize the Insight runeword starting at level 28. War Scythe, Grim Scythe, Giant Thresher.Also do not make the mistake of using Larzuk’s socket on it! So ignore them. The Bardiche/Lochaber Axe is the only polearm that cannot have more than 3 sockets. Remember not to put them into a spear weapon! To find a 4 socket polearm, you can start finding them in normal mode act 5 and normal cow mode. The next good item that will help is Insight Runeword (Ral + Tir + Tal + Sol) in a 4 socket polearm. It will allow you to use fireball or fire bolt until you go into your actual build. Shop for it in Act 1 and 2 of normal mode. What will help with the mana consumption is the Leaf Runeword (Tir + Ral), which is available at 19. If you are starting fresh, it will be tough early game as you will be chugging mana potions like beer.
